This time, we have focused on a vehicle that carried neither a gun nor armor, yet played an important role in German equipment during the Second World War. Introducing the Mercedes-Benz L1500S LLG WWII German Fire Truck with trailer, kit number 72993.
When we think of German equipment from the Second World War, most modelers immediately picture tanks, armored personnel carriers, or military trucks. However, everyday life in the units, cities, factories, and airfields of the time also relied on a wide range of specialized vehicles. Without them, the infrastructure simply could not function. One of these was the Mercedes-Benz L1500S LLG, a light fire engine that became one of the most widely used German fire-fighting vehicles of its time.
Mercedes-Benz L1500S: A Truck in Fire-Fighting Service
The Mercedes-Benz L1500S was based on Mercedes-Benz’s light truck range and was produced from 1941 to 1944. The L1500 designation referred to its 1.5-ton payload, while the S indicated a rear-wheel-drive version. A total of 4,101 L1500S vehicles were built, with the vast majority being the LLG fire-fighting variant.
The designation LLG, short for Leichtes Löschgruppenfahrzeug, can be translated as “light fire-fighting vehicle.” From 1943 onwards, this category was designated as LF 8. The vehicle was designed to carry an eight-man fire-fighting crew and was equipped to transport the necessary fire-fighting equipment.
There is another interesting detail that gives this model an even stronger historical character. The Mercedes-Benz L1500S LLG did not have a permanently installed fire pump. Instead, the portable TS 8 motor pump was carried on a separate trailer. The complete unit therefore consisted not only of the fire engine itself, but also of a dedicated trailer carrying the fire-fighting equipment.
A Fire Engine with a Military History
The L1500S LLG was not intended solely for regular fire-fighting duties. Vehicles of this type were also used in areas important to the German wartime infrastructure, such as airfields. Its combination of compact dimensions, sufficient capacity, and specialized fire-fighting body made it a highly useful vehicle.
Its appearance is also particularly interesting. During this period, German fire-fighting vehicles did not necessarily have the classic red color we associate with fire engines today. Fire brigades were incorporated into the police system, and their vehicles were often painted dark green.
The story of these vehicles did not end with the war. Surviving L1500S LLG vehicles continued to serve with fire brigades for many years. Some examples remained in service as late as the 1960s and 1970s.

The model is based on our previous Mercedes-Benz L1500S LLG kit. This new release comes in a new boxing that adds the fire-fighting trailer. Modelers therefore get not just an attractive vehicle, but a complete unit that will look excellent in a diorama.
We have also paid close attention to the details. The kit includes accessories produced using modern 3D printing technology, allowing us to achieve finer and more precise details. The trailer wheels and the jerry cans carried on the trailer are produced using 3D printing. These small details help give the finished model an even more realistic appearance.
Dioramas are one of the areas where this model offers plenty of possibilities. The Mercedes-Benz L1500S LLG can be placed at a fire station, on an airfield, in an industrial complex, near a railway facility, or in a German town. Thanks to its unusual character, it can also add an interesting touch to a scene featuring more conventional military equipment.
